The Story of The Shoppes on Strawbridge
"Our merchandise is hand crafted, high quality, made with integrity, and lots of Love.
We often get a lot of questions and comments when people come through our doors. Questions like, what kind of store is this? Do you sell water? Where’s the Dance Factory? Comments like I heard you have chocolate covered potato chips here.
Well, let me explain... At the Shoppes on Strawbridge, we house, “A little bit of everything that’s good”. The Shoppes is home to our Artisan Market Place, and we also have our very own Dance Factory. We are constantly adding new Shoppe Owners and merchandise to our Marketplace; which includes: Vinnie Lu's Beachside Chocolates, handmade jewelry, re-purposed merchandise live cut flowers seasonally, local authors books & more. Our merchandise is handcrafted, high quality, made with integrity, and lots of Love. At The Downtown Dance Factory , we offer Kangoo Jumps, Zumba, Pilates, Martial Arts, and Tai Chi, and we are always adding more. Our Studio Space at The Downtown Dance Factory is also available for rent. Do yo need a place to host a party or a business event? Our Studio is in a great downtown location, if you're looking for something a little different, check us out.
Our building the Shoppes on Strawbridge is housed in was built in 1958, it has been the location of many businesses. The most recent and probably the most well know is our building was the location of The Grimaldi Candies candy factory from 1970-2012. The candy factory was owned and operated by my father and mother Vincent and Anella (Helen) Grimaldi. My father made the candy and my mom sold it right here in the front of our Shoppe. That was many many years ago. My whole family was involved in the operation of the Candy Factory. What a grand memory! I was (really) I kid in a candy store.
Well, mom and dad retired and sold the Candy Factory. The new owners moved the factory and the building was left vacant for a few years.
The Idea for the Shoppes on Strawbridge was formed by asking local Melbourne friends and family, a simple question; “What does Melbourne need?”.
The answers to the question were, "I don’t know", to, "Not another Bar", and everything in between.
I took all of that into consideration and decided to form a Local Artisan Market place. A place where people could gather, small business owners could house their newly formed business, artists could display their work, local downtown families could have a unique place to shop, local authors could do book signings, and locally made candy could once again fill the shelves of the old Candy Factory. Yes, we carry Chocolate Covered Potato chips.
Please come and visit us in Historic Downtown Melbourne Florida.
Thank you; Many blessing and much love
